FastFetch Corporation is a technology-oriented company focusing on the delivery of innovative solutions to the distribution and logistics industries. The idea on which the company is based was the brainchild of Dr. Jack Peck who was previously a co-founder of Foxfire Technologies Corporation, a successful software development company that played a pioneering role in creating and marketing warehouse management software.

order fulfillment solutions

FastFetch was launched in 2006 with the objective of improving the speed and accuracy of piece picking by combining light-directed picking and putting technologies, wireless barcode scanning, and voice into a single system that enabled a human operator to fulfill multiple orders with a single trip through the picking area. There were two primary motivations behind the ideas that led to the creation of FastFetch. The first was the recognition of the huge upswing in e-commerce activity that was beginning to take place and the second was the lack of affordable technologies to support order fulfillment tasks that are best performed by human operators. We assembled a team of hardware and software engineers who set out to create a revolutionary system for order fulfillment.

The early days were spent creating and testing the hardware and software designs, working with suppliers to create a supply chain, securing patent protection, and gaining field experience with our early adopters. FastFetch was the first to market with a mobile cart for fulfilling multiple customer orders using a mobile computer, such as a tablet PC, to provide both voice and on-screen commands to guide a human picker through the process of picking products from baysand placing them into customer orders on the cart. Furthermore, FastFetch’s design was implemented in a distributed fashion with the cart’s tablet PC communicating directly (i.e., without Wi-Fi) with lights on product bays in order to highlight pick locations and pick quantities, and communicating directly with lights on the cart to highlight put locations. While our flagship product combining voice, barcode scanning, and lights for picking and putting was a novel concept when first introduced, the efficacy of the strategy has now proven its value in many diverse picking environments with some customers reporting picking rates in excess of 1000 lines per hour per picker.

Although our flagship cart-based picking technology proved capable of providing impressive picking rates, it became clear that the design of our technologies enabled them to be reconfigured into alternative material handling systems such as put and pack walls as well as traditional pick-to-light solutions. Today, FastFetch is recognized as an innovation leader in the distribution and logistics industries with our technologies supporting numerous distribution and manufacturing companies across a wide spectrum of product lines.

Dr. Peck is a Professor Emeritus in the Computer Science Department at Clemson University after retiring from Clemson as Chairman of the Department. At Clemson he served in a variety of capacities including Director of the Division of Information Systems Development, an organization he founded to assist South Carolina State Government in the design and development of very large database/data communication systems such as Medicaid and Online Public Health Medical Records. In addition to authoring numerous scholarly research papers and serving as a principal or co-principal investigator on several Department of Defense and National Science Foundation contracts, Dr. Peck served as an accreditation visitor on several teams for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and worked for many years as a consultant in computer applications for manufacturing and distribution through Foxfire Technologies Corporation, a software company he co-founded in 1987 and sold in 2007. Dr. Peck currently serves as President and CEO of FastFetch Corporation, a company he co-founded in 2006.

In addition to holding 2 patents on the FastFetch system in the United States, Japan, Mexico, China, India, Canada, England, Ireland, Germany and France, Dr. Peck holds two patents in speech recognition for use by handicapped workers and holds one US patent in intelligent, reconfigurable technologies for warehouse management. Dr. Peck’s primary research interests in computer science are database, manufacturing and distribution systems. Dr. Peck earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics and an MS and PhD degree in computer science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana).
